Gingerbread House Template

Gingerbread House Template Generator

Most templates give you one fixed house. Type the size you want instead, and print a 1:1 pattern with your dough thickness already allowed for.

Why a generator instead of one fixed template

A recipe-site template is a single house at a single size. If you want it wider for a bigger board, shorter to fit a box, or built from cardboard for kids to play in, you are left scaling a photocopy and hoping the roof still fits. Here you enter the width, depth, wall height, roof pitch, overhang and the thickness you roll to, and the pieces are recalculated: roof panels from the pitch, side walls shortened for the thickness, everything shown in the preview as you type.

What you get

  • A live preview of every piece, with its size in inches or centimetres.
  • A true-size PDF. Page 1 has a 1 inch and a 2 cm square so you can check your printer. Pieces larger than a page are tiled with alignment marks and an assembly map.
  • A dough and bake estimate: how many batches (one batch is about 1046 cm³ of dough, six cups of flour), how long to bake at your thickness, and roughly how much royal icing to mix.

Styles

Classic gable house (free): Four walls, two gable ends and a pitched roof. The shape everyone pictures. Log cabin (free): Wider and lower, with a shallow roof and an optional porch roof over the door. Mini mug-topper (free): A tiny house with a notch in each side wall, so it perches on the rim of a mug. The Pattern Pack adds A-frame, Tall townhouse, Chapel with steeple, Giant cardboard house, with a chimney, windows, fence panels and a small tree.

Questions

Is the template generator really free?

Yes. The Classic gable house, the Log cabin and the Mini mug-topper are free at any size you type in, in inches or centimetres, as a PDF or straight from the print button. Free pages carry one small line at the bottom saying where they were made. The Pattern Pack ($2.99, one-time) adds the other four styles, the extra pieces and a clean page.

How do I print the template at the right size?

Print the PDF at 100% (Actual size) and switch off “Fit to page” or “Scale to fit”. Page 1 has a 1 inch square and a 2 cm square: measure them with a ruler before you cut anything. If they are exact, every piece is exact.

Does the template allow for the thickness of the dough?

Yes. Enter the thickness you roll to. The front and back walls stand outside the side walls, so each side wall is shortened by two thicknesses; the roof panels are sized to the sloped gable edges. The house you describe is the outside size you get.

Does it work on A4 as well as US Letter?

Yes. Choose US Letter or A4 above the preview. Pieces that fit are packed onto pages; pieces larger than one page are split into tiles with an overlap, alignment marks and labels such as A1, A2, A3, plus an assembly map page.

Can I use centimetres?

Yes. Switch between inches and centimetres at any time. Your sizes convert, and the PDF, the parts list and the calculator all use the unit you picked.

Do I need an account or an app?

No. The generator runs in your web browser. The sizes you type stay on your device; nothing about your house is uploaded.
